Forward Deployed Engineer

About the Role

This is a high-ownership, customer-facing engineering role at a Y Combinator-backed AI startup automating inside sales workflows for distributors and manufacturers. You will own the full technical lifecycle from sales handoff through live deployment, sitting at the intersection of engineering, product, and real customer environments. Your work directly shapes how AI lands in complex enterprise settings.

What You'll Do

• Own end-to-end technical implementation of the product, from sales handoff to go-live.

• Configure and fine-tune AI models for customer-specific use cases, including prompt engineering and model behavior adjustments.

• Structure customer data and build system integrations with platforms such as SAP and various REST or GraphQL APIs.

• Develop prototypes to demonstrate new features or solve emerging customer problems, then evolve them into scalable solutions.

• Engage daily with both end users and senior business stakeholders to translate real pain points into engineering decisions.

• Surface product gaps and patterns back to the core engineering team, acting as the voice of the customer internally.

What We're Looking For

• Native or C2-level German fluency, required.

• Proven forward deployed or customer-facing engineering experience, not general engineering alone.

• Strong full-stack skills across Python, React, TypeScript, SQL, and data pipelines.

• Hands-on experience integrating enterprise systems such as ERP platforms, REST or GraphQL APIs, and webhooks.

• Practical experience with LLMs, AI agents, and prompt engineering in real production or customer contexts.

• Ability to wrangle messy, inconsistent real-world data and establish reliable structures quickly.

• Excellent communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences.

• High agency and ownership mindset, comfortable with ambiguity, legacy systems, and imperfect information.

• Willingness to work on-site in Munich in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: 80,000 to 130,000 EUR annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
