Founding Backend Engineer
AI Summary
Designs and manages the core backend architecture for an AI-driven road accident reconstruction platform, including APIs, data models, orchestration of ML and simulation pipelines, and secure integrations with insurance claims systems.
About this role
Founding Backend Engineer | Full time
€55,000 - €65,000 + bonus + equity
Who we are
Liablix is an innovative startup that is transforming the way road accidents are reconstructed and analyzed. Today, claims management is slow, not very transparent and exposed to fraud. We want to make it precise, fast and automated, thanks to artificial intelligence.
We work at the intersection of computer vision, 3D reconstruction and generative models to analyze vehicle damage, crash dynamics and liability. It is a huge market, and we are convinced that the next insurtech unicorn will be born here.
We are backed by leading international VC funds, which strongly believe in our vision and support our rapid growth.
Every claim that enters Liablix goes through a complex process: photos, documents and accident data pass through computer vision models, physics simulations and 3D reconstructions, to become reports with legal value for insurance companies, experts and forensic doctors. We are looking for a Founding Backend Engineer who will design the core systems that orchestrate all of this, and who will have full responsibility for them as the company grows 10x.
What you'll do
Design and manage the architecture of our platform: APIs, data model and services underlying the web app, mobile app and B2B integrations.
Build the orchestration layer that connects user uploads to our AI and simulation pipelines: job queues, asynchronous processing, retries and long-running GPU workloads.
Design integrations with the claims management systems of insurance companies and partners (REST APIs, webhooks, batch imports), to embed Liablix into real workflows.
Properly model and store sensitive insurance data: multi-tenancy, permissions, audit trails and GDPR-compliant data management.
Work side by side with ML, simulation and mobile engineers to turn research prototypes into reliable production features.
Define the team’s engineering standards: code quality, testing, code review and documentation.
What we’re looking for
At least 4 years of experience in backend roles, ideally in fast-growing product companies.
Excellent command of Python (FastAPI, Django or similar) and solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL).
Experience designing scalable APIs and distributed systems: message queues, asynchronous workers, caching, event-driven architectures.
Experience integrating or serving ML models in production is a strong plus.
Solid knowledge of security fundamentals and sensitive data management.
Product mindset: you care about what the user gets, not just how elegant the code is.
Being a genius is a strong plus. What we offer
What we offer
A key role: you will be among the first 10 members of the team and will help define both Liablix’s technology and culture.
Competitive compensation (gross annual salary): €55,000 - €65,000 per year.
Equity: a significant stake (approximately 0.3% - 0.5%) in stock options with standard 4-year vesting (1-year cliff). Thanks to the innovative startup tax regime, the options are exempt from income tax and you only pay capital gains tax at the time of sale.
Expected compensation growth: compensation is reviewed at the next funding round and upon reaching company milestones, in addition to a performance-based bonus.
Benefits: budget for training and conferences, flexibility on remote working days (office in Bologna), periodic team retreats, fringe benefits and meal vouchers.
Accelerated growth: your name will be associated with one of Europe’s most ambitious AI startups.
Culture fit
We are made for you if:
You are an A-player and want to work with other A-players.
You take responsibility for things and perform at your best in dynamic environments.
You want to build something big and put everything you have into it.
We are not made for you if:
You prefer predictable corporate roles with predefined tasks.
You are not ready to commit 100% to an early-stage journey.
You prefer closing tickets rather than designing systems from scratch.
Why join us
Tired of adding endpoints to a codebase designed by someone else ten years ago? Here you will write the first lines of the system that will decide how millions of claims will be managed, and it will be yours.
We are not looking for "employees". We are looking for co-creators of Liablix’s future.
You didn’t buy Bitcoin in 2009, but you joined Liablix in 2026. Everyone says they want to get into a unicorn early. Few actually do.
