Founding Marketer

San FranciscoOn-siteFull-time

AI Summary

The Founding Marketer will build and own Cooper AI's marketing function from zero, shaping messaging, campaigns, events, and brand. They’ll execute from day one, partnering with founders and GTM to drive growth.

About this role

Who We Are

Cooper AI is building AI for commercial insurance, taking the manual, time-consuming work off professionals' plates so they can focus on what actually matters: serving clients and growing their business. Cooper works directly inside the tools teams already use, turning these workflows into fast, automated experiences that save hours every week and unlock meaningful efficiency gains.

Backed by Lightspeed, General Catalyst, and Valor, Cooper AI is building from the ground up to modernize a $1T+ global insurance industry.

About the Role

We're looking for our first marketing hire, someone who will build the function from zero, not inherit it. This is a rare opportunity to shape how Cooper AI shows up in the world at a pivotal moment in our growth.

You'll own the full marketing surface: planning and executing events that put us in the right rooms, developing product marketing that makes our value proposition undeniable, managing agency relationships that extend our reach, and building the content and brand that earns us trust over time. You'll work directly with the founders and go-to-market team, and your fingerprints will be on everything.

This is not a role where you'll build a strategy and hand off execution. You'll be the one doing the work, and you'll be energized by that.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain our core messaging and positioning, translating what Cooper AI does into crisp, compelling stories for each buyer persona

  • Own sales enablement: build the decks, one-pagers, battle cards, and case studies that help our GTM team win

  • Partner closely with the product team to develop launch plans for new features and products, ensuring the market understands what we're building and why it matters

  • Build the playbook for how we show up at industry events (conference presence, executive dinners, network gatherings) and continuously improve it based on pipeline outcomes

  • Define Cooper AI's brand voice and editorial point of view, then build the content engine to execute it: blog posts, LinkedIn, case studies, email campaigns, video snippets

  • Identify, onboard, and manage external agencies and freelancers across SEO, design, paid, and content

What You'll Bring

  • 2+ years of B2B marketing experience, with demonstrated ownership across multiple channels and functions

  • Proven ability to build marketing programs from scratch; you know what it takes to go from zero to a system that actually runs

  • A bias toward execution: you think strategy and implementation as one motion, and you see things through rather than handing them off

  • Comfort working directly with stakeholders, influencing without authority, and making high-quality decisions with incomplete information

  • Natural relationship-builder with customers, partners, agencies, and teammates; people enjoy working with you and trust you quickly

  • Analytical mindset; you define success before you start, track what matters, and iterate based on data

  • More than a marketing role — we're looking for a high-agency generalist ready to shape commercial strategy, partnerships, and market development as the company evolves.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a market-facing function - product marketing, brand, growth, partnerships, content strategy, or sales enablement in a B2B SaaS or technology company

  • History of working in an early-stage environment (seed through Series B) where the scope was broad and resources were lean

  • Prior experience managing external agencies or freelancers and holding them accountable to quality and timelines

  • Background in insurtech, fintech, or enterprise SaaS, or experience marketing to brokers, agents, or other financial services professionals

  • Experience owning field marketing or events, including managing logistics across multiple concurrent programs

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary & equity

  • Medical, dental & vision insurance

  • Monthly wellness stipend

  • 401k with company match

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Company sponsored lunch 5x per week

  • Off sites, happy hours, and team building events
