About this role
Kogan.com is seeking a General Counsel to lead the legal, regulatory and governance function across the Kogan Group. This is a hands-on, high-impact role and we are looking for a commercially minded legal leader who can give sharp, practical advice at pace and act as a trusted partner to the business.
This is the perfect next step for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel, Head of Legal, or Deputy General Counsel who has built a strong track record in-house and is ready to step up into a broader leadership mandate as the principal legal advisor to an ASX-listed business.
Working closely with the Directors of the business, you’ll be the principal responsible for compliance, regulatory advice and contract review across the Group. You’ll liaise with external counsel on regulatory matters, partner with external counsel and our internal marketing and partnerships teams to review marketing material, oversee company secretarial matters, and support M&A activity as opportunities arise.
We are seeking a General Counsel who doesn’t just advise from the sidelines, but who gets close to the commercial detail, and helps us move quickly while managing risk sensibly.
This is a unique opportunity to join a market-leading, ASX-listed ecommerce powerhouse. At Kogan.com, we move fast, challenge the status quo, and lean into the technology that has made us a household name. You’ll be joining a high-performance environment where your advice directly shapes the trajectory of one of Australia’s most iconic eCommerce retailers.
If this sounds like you, apply today!
To be successful in this role, you should be:
-
Admitted to practise as a lawyer in Australia, with substantial post-qualification experience, including in an in-house role within a listed company, retail, eCommerce or similarly fast-paced environment.
-
Highly experienced in providing regulatory and compliance advice, with a strong working knowledge of the Australian Consumer Law, privacy and advertising regulation.
-
Proven ability to review, draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, balancing legal risk with commercial outcomes.
-
Experienced in managing external counsel effectively, including on regulatory matters and engagement with regulators.
-
Confident advising on marketing and promotional material, working collaboratively with marketing and partnerships teams to get campaigns out the door compliantly.
-
Experienced in company secretarial and corporate governance matters, ideally including ASX Listing Rules and continuous disclosure obligations.
-
Exposure to M&A transactions, including due diligence and transaction documentation, is highly regarded.
-
A trusted advisor with the gravitas to work closely with directors and senior leaders, and the ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly and concisely.
-
Highly organised, with a sharp attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple matters, competing priorities and tight deadlines.
-
Forward-thinking and tech-savvy, with a proven ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, enhance decision-making, and drive maximum productivity and effectiveness.
-
Pragmatic and solutions-focused, with a mindset geared towards continuous improvement and building scalable legal processes.
