Heavy Duty Mechanic

The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on Caterpillar heavy-duty mining equipment, including 740/777/785 haul trucks, 6030/6020 shovels, D9/D6 dozers, and 980/993 wheel loaders. The role involves servicing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mining equipment.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy-duty mining equipment, including engines, transmissions, axles, hydraulics, brakes, and air-conditioning systems.

• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults to identify the root cause of equipment malfunctions and carry out appropriate repairs.

• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance, including lubrication, greasing, filter replacement, and component checks, to ensure safe and reliable equipment performance.

• Repair and replace defective components and systems, including electrical controls, batteries, alternators, starters, wiring, hydraulic lines, drive shafts, differentials, and computer-controlled systems.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders, document repairs and diagnostic hours, and communicate repair recommendations or improvement opportunities to the Foreman.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

• Technical diploma or secondary school certificate in Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

• At least 7 years of relevant experience in heavy equipment maintenance, preferably in a mining environment.

• Strong knowledge of Caterpillar heavy-duty mining equipment, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.

• Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, mechanical, and repair skills.

• Ability to safely diagnose, maintain, repair, and service heavy-duty mining equipment and accurately document maintenance activities.

• Caterpillar training certificates in various equipment are an asset.

• Willingness to work in Brokopondo on a rotational schedule of 14 days of work followed by 7 days break

• Good communication and interpersonal skills in Dutch and English.

• If selected, you will be required to submit a Police Clearance Certificate (“Bewijs van Goed Gedrag”). Please initiate the request at your respective District Commissariat.
