About this role

About the Family

A warm, busy family on the Upper West Side is looking for a hands-on, hardworking House Manager who takes real pride in a clean, organized, well-run home. The household includes two parents, three young children (ages 7, 5, and almost 2), a live-in nanny, and a large Goldendoodle. They are moving from a Manhattan apartment into a large multi-level home of roughly 7,500 square feet (5 bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms) and need someone who can keep the entire house consistently clean, tidy, and running smoothly day to day.

The family keeps a kosher kitchen and observes Shabbat. Experience in a kosher home is welcome, and they are glad to teach the right person.

The Shape of This Role

This is a hands-on role. The person in this position does the daily work themselves: cleaning, tidying, resets, and keeping the home in order across every floor. It is not a role centered on supervising other staff.

The family is not planning to keep a separate daily housekeeper, so this person owns the day-to-day cleaning of the home. They are open to a separate person handling a weekly deep clean, though the right candidate may take that on as well.

What the Family Values Most

These are the areas where they will feel the biggest impact in the first weeks:

  • Clean kitchen counters and a fully reset kitchen at the end of the day

  • Clutter cleared, with the front hall and common spaces kept tidy

  • Everything returned to its proper place, including moving items floor to floor to where they belong

  • A calm, orderly home to come back to

Requirements

Core Responsibilities

Daily Housekeeping & Home Reset

  • Clean and tidy across the full multi-level home each day: surfaces, kitchen, bathrooms, common areas, and floors (vacuum and mop)

  • Perform daily resets, spot-checking each room and handling whatever needs attention, whether clutter, dishes, or items left out

  • Return items to their proper place and manage the flow of belongings between floors

  • Keep the front hall and entry consistently clear and welcoming

Deep Cleaning

  • Maintain a thorough weekly deep clean of the home, room by room (this hire, or in coordination with a single weekly deep-clean person)

  • A standing Friday deep clean before Shabbat is a priority, with a second deep-clean day mid-week (Monday or Tuesday)

Kitchen & Meals

  • Keep the kosher kitchen clean, reset, and organized, following the family's setup

  • Maintain pantry, refrigerator, and food-storage organization

  • Light meal preparation from the family's existing recipes, varying week to week, for example batch cooking or prepping vegetables, or finishing a meal when the parents are running late

Groceries, Restocking & Inventory

  • Weekly grocery shop (primary store: Fairway), plus the add-on list the family sends each week

  • Restock household and cleaning supplies (typically via Amazon), holding simple minimum and maximum levels so the home never runs out

  • Keep a running list of what needs to be picked up or reordered

Laundry

  • Basic laundry support. This is currently a low priority and may expand over time depending on how responsibilities settle after the move.

Dog Care

  • Walk the family's Goldendoodle midday (out by around 1:00 pm, roughly 30 to 40 minutes), with a possible shorter evening walk depending on hours

  • Handle grooming drop-offs and pickups

Children & Family Support

  • Occasional school pickups and activity coordination, roughly one to three days a week (school is about ten blocks away)

  • Backup support for the nanny when needed, for example staying with the baby during a pickup

  • Work respectfully alongside the live-in nanny, who remains primary for the children

Shabbat & Weekend Support

  • Help set up for Shabbat, including table setting, light serving, and cleanup

  • Occasional Friday evening and Saturday afternoon hosting support, roughly twice a month each and more often in winter, always arranged in advance and typically confirmed by Wednesday

Move-In & Setup

  • Help establish organization and household systems as the family settles into the new home in late summer, including unpacking and setting up storage

Light Vendor Coordination

  • Coordinate the smaller vendor and service needs that fall outside the family's existing maintenance company, which already handles most true home maintenance

Schedule Notes

  • Core hours are weekday afternoons, with flexibility on exact start and end times day to day (for example, 12 to 5 one day, 2 to 7 another), as long as the dog walk and any scheduled pickups are covered

  • The fixed timing anchors on a given day are the midday dog walk and any school pickup

  • Hours may grow over time as the family settles into the larger home and learns what it needs

Non-Negotiables

  • Hands-on daily cleaning across the whole home, to a high standard

  • Genuine initiative and follow-through

  • Non-smoker and scent-free

  • Discretion and confidentiality

  • Comfort with dogs and children

  • Strong private-home references

  • Flexibility as the household's needs evolve after the move
