About the Position
Vogelsang USA is seeking an experienced, hands-on Human Resources Generalist to support our employees and management team at our Ravenna, Ohio office.
Reporting directly to the President / CEO, you will manage day-to-day HR matters, provide practical guidance to managers, and serve as a trusted resource for employees. This role requires someone who can work independently, handle sensitive matters with discretion, and keep HR priorities moving within a consistent part-time schedule.
We have a full-time recruiter on staff. This position does not include recruiting, candidate sourcing, applicant screening, or interview scheduling. You will coordinate with our recruiter to ensure a smooth transition from hiring to employee onboarding.
Vogelsang supplies industrial pumping, grinding, and fluid-handling equipment to municipal, industrial, agricultural, and other markets.
- Serve as the CEO’s primary internal resource for day-to-day HR matters, employee concerns, and personnel policies.
- Advise managers on employee relations, performance concerns, attendance, corrective action, and appropriate documentation.
- Address employee questions and workplace concerns professionally, escalating significant matters to the CEO.
- Coordinate new employee onboarding, orientation, and employment paperwork following the hiring process.
- Maintain accurate, confidential employee files and HR records.
- Coordinate performance reviews and help managers follow through on employee development plans.
- Review and update job descriptions, employee handbook materials, and HR procedures.
- Support benefits enrollment and employee changes in coordination with payroll and benefits providers.
- Assist with leave administration, workers’ compensation documentation, and employee separations.
- Help management maintain compliance with applicable employment requirements and identify matters requiring outside expertise.
- Track required employee training and maintain related documentation.
- Provide the CEO with a concise weekly update on outstanding HR matters, upcoming deadlines, and recommended actions.
Requirements
Qualifications
- At least three years of hands-on HR generalist experience; five or more years preferred.
- Strong experience in employee relations, HR administration, policy implementation, and manager support.
- Experience supporting both hourly and salaried employees.
- Ability to advise senior leadership with sound judgment and clear, practical recommendations.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and follow through within a part-time schedule.
- Discretion and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach to resolving workplace concerns.
- Working knowledge of HR practices and applicable employment requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with HR or payroll systems preferred.
- Manufacturing, distribution, or industrial company experience is a plus.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus
