Job Title: HVAC Field Supervisor

Position Summary

The HVAC Field Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily field operations and supervising HVAC technicians and apprentices to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service delivery. This position provides technical leadership, training, scheduling support, quality assurance, and performance management while serving as a key liaison between field personnel, customers, and management. The Field Supervisor supports service, repair, retrofit, and replacement projects while promoting operational excellence, safety compliance, and employee development.

Key Responsibilities

Field Operations & Technical Support

• Supervise and support HVAC technicians and apprentices in the completion of service, repair, retrofit, and replacement work
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance to field personnel
• Monitor work quality and ensure compliance with company standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable codes
• Assist with scheduling, dispatching, and workload management to maximize operational efficiency
• Support project planning by reviewing job requirements, site conditions, materials, and labor needs
• Conduct field visits to monitor progress, provide coaching, and ensure successful project completion
• Identify, diagnose, and assist with complex HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical system issues as needed
• Utilize technical drawings, schematics, specifications, and diagnostic equipment to support field operations
• Maintain equipment, vehicle, and tool inventories and coordinate maintenance and repair activities
• Assist with after-hours support, emergency service needs, and overtime coverage as required

Leadership & Employee Development

• Train, mentor, and develop HVAC technicians and apprentices
• Support employee onboarding and technical skill development programs
• Participate in interviewing, hiring, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary processes
• Establish performance expectations and monitor employee progress
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional development within the field workforce
• Recommend staffing, training, and workforce development initiatives to management

Customer & Operational Support

• Serve as a primary field representative and customer contact
• Respond to customer inquiries, concerns, and special requests in a professional manner
• Ensure customer satisfaction through effective communication and quality workmanship
• Support process compliance through review of work orders, service documentation, and operational records
• Assist management with reports, operational analysis, and special projects
• Coordinate communication between technicians, project managers, customers, and office staff

Safety & Compliance

• Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures
• Evaluate jobsite safety conditions and provide recommendations for improvement
• Conduct field safety observations and support employee safety training initiatives
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices
• Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory, environmental, and company requirements

Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in HVAC, Refrigeration, or Mechanical Systems
• Minimum 10 years of HVAC industry experience preferred
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
• Extensive knowledge of commercial HVAC, refrigeration, boiler, and mechanical systems
• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and technical manuals
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Proficiency with computers, service software, and mobile technology
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record

• Experience managing field service teams
• Knowledge of building automation and controls systems
• Commercial refrigeration experience
• Project planning and workforce scheduling experience
• OSHA safety training and leadership experience
• Multi-state licensing experience

Certifications & Licenses

• EPA Universal Technician Certification required
• NH Gas License required
• Valid driver's license required
• Maine and Massachusetts trade licenses preferred

Work Environment

• Combination of field and office responsibilities
• Frequent travel to customer job sites and project locations
• Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Exposure to mechanical equipment, electrical systems, construction environments, and active jobsites
• Occasional overnight travel, overtime, and weekend work as business needs require

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, with assistance when necessary
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and reaching
• Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and elevated work areas
• Ability to operate tools, equipment, computers, and mobile devices
• Visual and physical capability to safely inspect, diagnose, and evaluate field conditions
