Lab/ER Technician

Lab/ER TechnicianSeeking a Lab/ER Technician mid-shift position to support increasing ER and inpatient detox volumes during peak hours. This targeted role will enhance patient flow, maintain lab compliance and supply readiness, support patient care, and provide operational flexibility.

We are seeking a motivated and dependable Lab / ER Tech to join our team in a dual role supporting both our clinical laboratory operations and emergency room activities. This position involves performing basic laboratory tasks, specimen collection, assisting with patient care in a fast-paced emergency environment, and supporting overall department functions to ensure efficient and quality patient care. Prior experience or training in laboratory procedures and emergency medical services is preferred, but we are willing to provide training for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collect and prepare specimens such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids following established protocols.
• Assist with basic laboratory testing, including sample preparation and operating simple lab equipment under supervision.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory and emergency department areas and equipment.
• Follow safety, infection control, and hospital policies to ensure a safe environment for staff and patients.
• Record, document, and communicate laboratory and patient care activities accurately.
• Support inventory management of laboratory and emergency supplies and reagents.
• Perform vital signs, venipuncture, IV placement, wound care, and other patient care procedures as needed.
• Operate laboratory equipment, conduct point-of-care testing, and maintain quality controls.
• Monitor and restock medical supplies in both laboratory and emergency department areas.
• Assist clinical staff and communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to facilitate seamless care delivery.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
• Support the electronic medical records system and maintain up-to-date patient data.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or department heads.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One year of hospital or clinical laboratory experience preferred.
• Certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Dependable, responsible, and committed to providing high-quality emergency and laboratory patient care.
• Ability to learn and adapt to new procedures and technologies.

Physical Requirements:

• Continuous: Vision, hearing, speaking, manual dexterity, and the ability to perform repetitive motions.
• Frequent: Bending, squatting, twisting, lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance, and pushing/pulling loads.
• Occasional: Climbing, crouching, color discrimination, exposure to noise, and environmental hazards.
• Other: Use of PPE, potential exposure to infectious diseases, and risk of cuts or bruises.

Work Environment:
This role involves working within a clinical laboratory and emergency room setting, with exposure to biological materials, infectious risks, and the need for strict safety practices. Flexibility in scheduling, including potential on-call hours, may be required. The successful candidate will be a vital member of the Emergency Department team, providing people-centered care and supporting the overall hospital mission.
