Job Description
Under general direction of the attending physician or designee, coordinates and guides the activities of a small group of physician assistants/physician extenders. Performs clinical duties of a Physician Assistant in a medical or medical specialty service area. Orients, trains and assigns work to Physician Assistants; acts as first level reviewer; recommends candidates for hire; assists with disciplinary matters. Develops and secures approval of protocols, standards, policies and procedures; monitors compliance. Establishes/administers annual manpower budget. Establishes and maintains employee records and work schedules, including patient load assignments. Develops, implements, monitors and revises clinical rotations for student Physician Assistants. Plans and implements in-service education programs for department Physician Assistants.
1. Performs duties of a physician assistant and lead PA in a medical or medical specialty service area.*
2. Orients, trains and assigns work to Physician Assistants. Acts as first level review of a small group of Physician Assistants. Recommends candidates for hiring and assists management with discipline matters.*
3. Develops and secures approval of protocols, standards, policies and procedures. Monitors compliance of established protocols, policies and procedures.*
4. Establishes, submits for approval and administers annual manpower budget.*
5. Establishes and maintains employee work schedules, including patient load assignments. Approves and schedules vacation time and other scheduled time off. Maintains employee records.*
6. Develops, implements, monitors and revises, as necessary, clinical rotations for student Physician Assistants.*
7. Plans and implements in-service education programs for department's Physician Assistants.*
8. Participates in various committees, as assigned.*
9. Maintains and enhances expertise through appropriate educational and organizational activities.*
