About the Role: The Learning and Resource Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and provision of initial and ongoing academic skills and academic literacies support for CSU Melbourne students. The Learning and Resource Coordinator designs, implements and facilitates academic skills services, including cultivating an online information resource environment (e.g. in the LMS and Student Portal) and providing support to students in a Learning Hub both online and on campus.
This role assists all learners in evaluating and finding appropriate learning resources, ensuring a high standard of student academic skills guidance for core competencies, such as academic integrity, academic literacy and information literacy, as well as self-efficacy for independent learning. Managing print and digital resources, the Learning and Resource Coordinator contributes to supporting and enriching student learning, research, and assessment capabilities.
The Learning and Resource Coordinator is also responsible for providing structured individual and group learning support tailored the learning needs of students, aligned with discipline and curriculum objectives. This is delivered via individual and group academic skills support, including consultations, webinars and workshops (stand-alone and embedded), and through the creation and maintenance of resources to support learning. The Learning and Resource Coordinator is also responsible for managing and supporting students referred for academic progression intervention and associated student success plans.
Key Responsibilities
Provision of Academic Skills Services:
- Design, maintain and deliver a range of academic skills resources and services that promote student engagement, learning and academic success i.e. academic skills workshops and webinars, individual and group consultations, digital and print guides.
- Collaborate with Academic staff and other stakeholders to identify gaps and respond to trends in students’ academic skills needs.
- Support and train staff in effective use of academic skills and library resources for best-practices in academic-, research- and information literacies.
- Coordinate student communications regarding academic skills programming, raising the profile of academic skills and library services.
- Assist students in navigating and effectively using the Learning Hub, including computer workstations, software applications, and printing services.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to online resources and Learning Hub equipment and escalate complex problems to the appropriate technical support.
- Evaluate and monitor academic skills resources, programs and services in conjunction with the Academic Director and relevant stakeholders for impact, currency, and best practice.
- Support students identified as ‘at risk’ within university academic progression intervention frameworks, e.g., in individual consultations for academic skills development, language enhancement, and self-efficacy.
- Support proactive, early intervention with students identified as disengaged, via outreach campaigns, case-management, academic skills coaching, and warm referral pathways.
- Support Academic teams to ensure learning development goals are achieved as part of student success plans.
- Any other duties assigned by Academic Director.
Learning Resource Management (Library):
- Curate and organise digital collections, ensuring easy access to online resources such as e-books, databases, journals, and multimedia materials based on curriculum and identified student needs.
- Collaborate with CSU library and staff to assess and acquire new learning resources based on user needs every semester.
Other Duties:
- Act as staff contact and mentor for CSUSM Student Representative Councils / Sub-Committees.
- Contribute to the organisation and delivery of student Orientation and transition activities to support student onboarding, including international student adjustment to Australian higher education, student belonging, and competent use of LMS and digital platforms
- Work collaboratively with the Student and Academic Services, Counselling and Academic teams in the delivery of effective, integrated student support, including referring students to core professional administrative staff and Student Central.
- Referral of students to Student Wellbeing, Safer Communities and Student Counselling teams and services as appropriate.
Policies, Procedures and Compliance:
- Adhere to established CSU and Navitas information management policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with copyright laws, licensing agreements, and intellectual property rights.
- Manage student intervention strategies and maintain accurate tracking and documentation e.g. via the CRM
- Contribute to Retention and Attendance monitoring for compliance, as directed by the Academic Director
- Ensure compliance with industry regulatory environment including ESOS Act, National Code, and any other regulatory frameworks that may apply.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor or Master’s qualification in TESOL or Linguistic is preferred.
- Previous experience working in Academic Skill or student academic support environment is desirable.
- Experience in the provision of language and learning support including assessing learning needs and writing skills.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and facilitation of study skills workshops.
- Knowledge of information literacy principles and ability to instruct others in research techniques and citation practices.
- Familiarity with online learning resource management systems, digital cataloguing, Library systems and database management
- Strong computer skills, including knowledge of software applications, internet research techniques, and troubleshooting basic technical issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive environment
- Demonstrated experience in managing students at risk and implementing appropriate intervention strategies.
