Manager – Premium Receivables & Collections

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Collections & Field Engagement
- Own and drive the end-to-end collections cycle for Jamaica's premium debtors, including brokers, agents, and direct policyholders.
- Conduct regular scheduled and unannounced field visits to insurance brokers and agents with outstanding balances, maintaining a structured call plan and visit register.
- Build and sustain productive relationships with key broker and agent contacts to facilitate timely premium remittances and early identification of potential defaults.
- Negotiate payment plans and settlement arrangements with debtors, within delegated authority limits,escalating material cases to the Financial Controller.
- Initiate and monitor formal notices, demand letters, and, where necessary, coordinate with legal counsel on recovery proceedings.
- Maintain a live, accurate contacts database for all active broker and agent accounts, updated after every interaction.
Credit Risk Management
- Assess and monitor the creditworthiness of brokers, agents, and direct clients, recommending credit limits and payment terms for new and existing accounts.
- Identify accounts exhibiting deteriorating payment behaviour and escalate promptly with supporting analysis and a recommended course of action.
- Maintain the Receivable ageing schedule, ensuring completeness and accuracy of the data in 4D and Sage.
- Support the Financial Controller in the periodic assessment of Expected Credit Loss (ECL) provisions under IFRS 9, providing collectability assessments by account.
- Recommend and monitor periodic account cancellations in a timely manner.
- Monitor compliance with the Group Credit and Collections Policy across all Jamaica accounts and flag breaches for management attention.
Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare and submit monthly premium receivables ageing reports, collections performance dashboards, and individual account status updates to the Financial Controller.
- Provide written commentary on significant movements, material individual exposures, and accounts at risk for inclusion in management accounts.
- Track and report on key collections metrics — including debtor days, collection rates, and overdue balances by broker and product class — on a frequency agreed with the Financial Controller.
- Maintain a detailed collections activity log, recording all contacts made, commitments received, and outcomes achieved, available for review at any time.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Supervise and coach Collections Officers assigned to the Jamaica portfolio, setting daily and weekly targets and reviewing performance against collections plans.
- Collaborate with the Underwriting and Policy Administration teams to resolve premium disputes, policy cancellation disputes, and related queries that are impeding collection.
- Liaise with the Finance team to ensure prompt and accurate allocation of premium receipts and timely reconciliation of broker statements.
- Support periodic external audit processes by providing schedules, confirmations, and documentation in relation to premium receivable balances.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications (Minimum)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- A credit, collections, or sales management qualification will be considered an advantage.
- Part-qualified or fully qualified professional accountant (ACCA, ICAJ, CPA, or equivalent) would be an asset but not mandatory.
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in credit management, collections, or a client-facing commercial role, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated track record of managing high-volume receivables portfolios and achieving measurable collection results.
- Experience in the insurance industry — particularly in broker-facing or intermediary management roles — is strongly preferred.
- Proven history of conducting field visits, client negotiations, and relationship-driven collections activities.
- Familiarity with insurance management systems and ERP platforms; experience with 4D and/or Sage Intacct is a material advantage.
Technical Competencies
- Sound working knowledge of premium receivables management and IFRS 9 ECL provisioning as applied to insurance debtors.
- Proficiency in aged debt analysis and credit risk assessment within a broker-intermediated insurance environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to construct and maintain ageing schedules, collection trackers, and provision workbooks.
- Familiarity with debt recovery processes, demand letter protocols, and collections legislation applicable in Jamaica.
- Ability to interpret broker statements, reconcile remittances, and resolve payment allocation discrepancies.
