As a Phlebotomy Technician, you will travel to nursing homes and rehabs within a specific area, including 12 on the east side, 14 on the west and 2 on the south. Many patients often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening, soyou can helpthemfeelat ease while obtaining all the required specimens.At Cleveland Clinic, youcanalsoexplore advanced positions, such asLead Phlebotomist, Team Lead,Supervisorand Manager.

A caregiver in this position worksdays+ on-call| 4:00am—12:00pm or 5:00am—12:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform blood collection for extended care clients and provide service to theirresidents, (primarily geriatric).

• Perform specimen processing and send-out tasks, such asaccessioningand packaging for transport.

• Follow proper protocol when collecting samples, such as introducing yourself, verifying patient identity, collecting specimens for all tests listed on the requisition, clarifying tests, labeling specimens,transportingand centrifuging.

• Provide STAT,scheduledand routine orders.

• Ensure all current demographic and insurance information is obtained and verified.

• Checkappropriate paperworkfor each test,patientand/or client.

• Complete andsubmitappropriate administrativepaperwork, such as time and mileage reports.

• Follow proper laboratory safety procedures.

• Be flexible toworka varied schedule asrequired, including early morning and afternoon shifts, and travel to patient locations.

• Carry an on-call pager on assigned weekdays and every other weekend during the hours of 4AM – midnight, answer the pager within 15-30 minutes, arrive at the home within an hour, collect statdrawsand have the specimen back to the lab within 2 hours from the time receipt of call.

• Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• HighSchoolDiplomaor GED

• One year of currentPhlebotomy experience

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Crosswithin three months of hire

• A current,ValidDriver’sLicense(VDL)and personal liability insurance coverage with the limits of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident on bodily injury and $100,000 in property liability damage

• Clean criminal history

• Experience andproficiencyin blood collection from all patients

• Experience in handling and transporting laboratory specimens, laboratory safety, medicalterminologyand laboratory waste management

• Working knowledge of clinical laboratory and tests performed

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduation certificate from a formal accreditedPhlebotomyProgram

• ASCPPhlebotomyCertification

• Two years of currentPhlebotomy experience
