Job Summary:

The Producer/Editor is responsible for developing, producing, and post-producing video content supporting the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and broader enterprise initiatives. This role has a strong emphasis on video editing, storytelling, and editorial execution, taking projects from initial concept and production through final delivery.

The Producer/Editor will collaborate with internal departments and creative partners to develop compelling short- and long-form content across digital, social, in-venue, broadcast, marketing, internal communications, and other platforms. The role requires strong editorial judgment, a refined understanding of visual storytelling, and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining a high standard of creative quality.

Responsibilities may include producing and editing interviews, features, promotional content, social videos, event coverage, internal communications, live and prerecorded presentations, and other original video projects.

This position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours, as well as travel and occasional physical production work.

Key Responsibilities:

Editing & Post-Production

  • Edit short- and long-form video content from concept through final delivery, ensuring projects meet established creative, technical, and brand standards.
  • Shape footage into compelling narratives through editorial structure, pacing, music, sound design, graphics, color correction, and visual effects.
  • Review and organize footage, selects, project files, audio, graphics, and other media throughout the post-production process.
  • Collaborate with producers, creative partners, and internal stakeholders to incorporate feedback and deliver polished final products.
  • Prepare and deliver content in appropriate formats, resolutions, frame rates, codecs, and specifications for digital, social, in-venue, broadcast, and internal platforms.
  • Maintain organized project files and editorial workflows to support efficient collaboration, revisions, and future use.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Cloud applications, with an emphasis on Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
  • Maintain and contribute to department-wide editing and post-production standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Stay current with emerging editing techniques, post-production technologies, and industry trends and identify opportunities to improve the department's creative output.

Producing & Content Development

  • Develop original video concepts, story ideas, treatments, and editorial approaches for assigned projects and areas of support.

  • Produce interviews, features, event recaps, promotional content, social content, internal communications, and other multimedia projects.
  • Conduct interviews and work with talent, players, coaches, employees, and other participants to capture compelling stories.
  • Plan and coordinate video productions, including pre-production, crew needs, locations, schedules, equipment, and production logistics.
  • Scout, select, and secure appropriate locations for video productions.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and creative partners to develop concepts and execute projects from pre-production through final delivery.
  • Determine appropriate production approaches based on creative objectives, available resources, timelines, and distribution needs.
  • Coordinate and execute video content for live and prerecorded presentations, meetings, events, and other enterprise initiatives.

Production Operations

  • Source and coordinate props, music, production resources, and other materials necessary to complete projects.
  • Maintain organized production assets, including footage, media, project files, and the department's video archive.
  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of video production equipment and studio resources.
  • Recommend hardware, software, and workflow solutions that improve production and post-production efficiency.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining established deadlines, priorities, and quality standards.
  • Communicate project status, production needs, and potential challenges clearly and proactively.

Professional & Industry Development

  • Maintain a working knowledge of current video production, post-production, and content distribution technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve creative processes, production workflows, and overall department output quality.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment through knowledge sharing, constructive feedback, and adherence to established creative and production standards.
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when working with confidential information, talent, and organizational initiatives.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Film, Media Production, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of four years of professional experience in video production, editing, sports, entertainment, broadcast, news, or a related environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in professional video editing and post-production workflows, with strong experience in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Familiarity with additional Adobe Creative Cloud applications is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of editorial storytelling, pacing, structure, music, sound, color correction, graphics, and visual effects.
  • Understanding of video codecs, compression, encoding, resolutions, frame rates, aspect ratios, and delivery specifications across multiple platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience producing content from concept through final delivery.
  • Strong cinematography and visual storytelling skills, including experience operating professional cameras and production equipment.
  • Experience producing interviews, features, event coverage, and other narrative-driven content.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present creative ideas and communicate production needs.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to creative and technical quality.
  • Ability to receive, interpret, and incorporate creative feedback throughout the production and post-production process.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and represent the organization professionally.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible and non-traditional schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
  • Ability and willingness to travel in accordance with corporate travel policies.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent periods of standing, walking, and working on location or in production environments.
  • Frequent visual and auditory attention required for both production and post-production responsibilities.
  • Fast-paced work environment with regular exposure to loud arenas, stadiums, outdoor conditions, and varying venue environments.
  • Ability to operate, transport, lift, and carry production equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular exposure to production environments that may include outdoor elements, mechanical equipment, elevated areas, and airborne particles.
  • Travel and work in a variety of indoor and outdoor production environments may be required.
