SUMMARY: Maintains and repairs physical structures of buildings, school vehicles, and other equipment. Performs inspections to ensure safety measures are in place on all school grounds including the parking lot and repairs/reports safety issues and performs preventative maintenance. Maintains inventory of stores school resources, sets up seating for school events and secures the gym tarp as needed for events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address changing maintenance/business needs and practices.
- Operate under the direction of the Business Manager and Principal and follow established priorities and schedules according to assigned work orders.
- Perform basic building maintenance including general repairs, painting, plumbing, electrical, roofing, carpentry, concrete and welding.
- Inspect buildings, surrounding areas, parking lots, grounds, fences, and playgrounds to prevent safety hazards and ensure safety of staff, students, and community. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Operate a variety of building equipment including power tools, scaffolding equipment, etc.
- Maintain school vehicles and operate golf cart.
- Be aware of stored furniture and replace damaged ones as needed.
- Keep clean, safe and well-organized maintenance areas.
- Set-up tables, chairs, and gym tarp for school and special events as needed.
- Compile inventory of storage areas and containers yearly.
- Complete the SECC monthly safety checklist for schools and submit report to the school safety coordinator.
- Perform general maintenance and other duties as requested and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required, as well as physical demands and work environment.
Required Education & Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must possess general knowledge of basic construction methods and the ability to recognize techniques, supplies, and materials utilized in building maintenance functions and activities: plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, safe working, and vehicle operation practices. Skillfully and effectively operate a variety of maintenances equipment and tools.
Abilities
Understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain an effective relationship with staff, students, and community, stay on task and complete assignments in a timely manner; be capable of meeting deadlines; perform effectively under stress
Required Licenses and/or Certificates
Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, and individual should have knowledge of email software; experience using the internet for the purpose of researching and purchasing; basic knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software; be able to consistently use computerized system for record keeping of work hours.
Language Skills
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus but is not required. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demand
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stoop and keel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as well as complete heavy work involving moving, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more using prescribed safety measures. Specific vision ability for this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This job performs duties both inside and outside. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level is generally moderate, but noise of construction equipment or vehicles may be loud.
