Job Summary

The Safety Manager for Primoris Heavy Civil in Louisiana is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all project personnel. This role involves proactive risk assessment, incident prevention, and compliance with all relevant federal, state, and company safety regulations.

Job Responsibilities

* Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific safety plans and procedures for heavy civil construction projects in Louisiana.
* Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, unsafe practices, and non-compliance with safety regulations.
* Lead and participate in incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
* Provide comprehensive safety training and orientation to new hires and ongoing training for existing employees on various safety topics (e.g., fall protection, confined space, excavation safety, equipment operation).
* Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
* Maintain accurate safety records, including incident reports, training logs, and inspection documentation.
* Collaborate with project management, superintendents, and foremen to integrate safety into all aspects of project planning and execution.
* Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety awareness and best practices.
* Manage and oversee emergency response procedures and drills.
* Evaluate and select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its proper use and maintenance.
* Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters on assigned projects.
* Stay current with industry best practices, new safety technologies, and changes in regulations.

Job Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
* Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in construction safety, with at least 3 years in a management role, preferably in heavy civil construction.
* OSHA 30-hour certification required; OSHA 500 certification preferred.
* Nationally recognized safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CHST) highly desirable.
* In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA 1926 (Construction).
* Proven experience in developing and implementing effective safety programs and training.
* Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
* Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
* Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently to various project sites within Louisiana.
* Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate construction sites.
