Senior Civil Consultant (Director) – Power & Renewable Energy

AFRY Malaysia is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Consultant to join our Director Leadership Team within the Power & Energy Division. The successful candidate must hold an active Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate (PEPC) issued by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

This office-based consulting role focuses on providing technical advisory services, technical due diligence, project development support, and engineering reviews for Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT), thermal power, Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), waste-to-energy, and biomass-to-power projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality consulting services while contributing to AFRY's business growth, strengthening client relationships, and expanding our presence in the conventional and renewable energy sectors across Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

• Serve as a member of the Director Leadership Team, providing strategic technical leadership and contributing to the company's long-term growth strategy.
• Lead technical due diligence assignments for CCGT, gas engine, Solar PV, BESS, waste-to-energy, and biomass-to-power projects.
• Provide technical advisory services during project development, feasibility studies, project financing, and project execution.
• Review civil and structural engineering designs, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation prepared by EPC/EPCC contractors.
• Review EPC/EPCC proposals, technical bids, and contractor deliverables.
• Identify technical risks and develop practical mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
• Lead or support Lender's Engineer (LE), Owner's Engineer (OE), and Independent Engineer (IE) assignments.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, contractors, equipment suppliers, and project stakeholders.
• Prepare technical due diligence reports, engineering review reports, technical assessments, and executive presentations.
• Provide technical guidance during procurement, construction, commissioning, and project execution, as required.
• Drive business development by identifying new consulting opportunities, preparing technical proposals, supporting bids, and participating in client presentations.
• Develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients, developers, lenders, investors, utilities, and government agencies.
• Leverage an established professional network to engage with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission), TNB, DOSH, BOMBA, relevant ministries, regulators, and other key industry stakeholders.
• Represent AFRY at industry events, technical conferences, and client engagements to enhance the company's market presence.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers and consultants while fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Mandatory registration as a Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate (PEPC) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 10–15 years of experience in CCGT, thermal power, Solar PV and/or Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
• Demonstrated experience in technical due diligence, project development, Owner's Engineer (OE), Independent Engineer (IE), or EPC/EPCC engineering design review.
• Strong understanding of civil and structural engineering aspects of conventional and renewable energy infrastructure.
• Experience reviewing EPC/EPCC engineering deliverables, technical specifications, and construction documentation.
• Experience within engineering consultancy, Owner's Engineer, Independent Engineer, or EPC organisations is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with international engineering standards and codes such as Eurocodes, BS, ASTM, ISO, IEC, and other relevant standards.
• Excellent analytical, report writing, presentation, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings and site visits.
