Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a highly complex patient caseload, the assessment and treatment of patients in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

There is currently 1 permanent, whole-time vacancy available in Occupational Therapy Department for a Senior Occupational Therapist in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for a Senior Occupational Therapist – HDU, in Connolly Hospital from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

Essential Criteria

1. Statutory Registration Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Candidates for appointment must:

(i) Be registered, or eligible for registration, on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

And

(ii) Have three years full time (or an aggregate of three years) post qualification clinical experience.

And

(iii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

And

(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

2. Annual registration

(i) Practitioners must maintain annual registration on Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU

And

(ii) Confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)

3. Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

4. Character

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post Specific Requirements:

The candidate must demonstrate sufficient depth & breadth of recent experience relevant to the role, in an acute adult teaching hospital within the Irish Health Service.

Demonstrate a minimum of one years’ post graduate experience working in a High Dependency Unit (HDU) / Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Critical Care Unit (CCU).

Demonstrate depth and breadth of prior experience with administering and interpreting all of the following Cognitive Assessments:

• Ranch Los Amigos Scale (RLA Scale)
• Westmead Post-Traumatic Amnesia Scale (WPTAS)
• The Wessex Head Injury Matrix (WHIM)
• Coma Recovery Scale (CSR)
• The Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU (CAM-ICU) -Delerium

Evidence of post graduate experience in;

• Cognition
• Management of spasticity and tone
• 24-hour posture management and positioning
• Management of Edema
• Disorders of consciousness
• Traumatic brain injury
• Amputees
• Spinal injuries
