Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a complex patient caseload, the assessment and treatment of patients in the Acute Stroke patients.

The salary scale for the post is: (01/06/2026)

€72,119 €73,511 €74,941 €76,363 €77,784 €79,280 €80,857 €82,428 €83,689

There is currently 1 permanent, whole-time vacancy available in the department.

A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - Acute Stroke Unit from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.

Essential Criteria

Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

Candidates for appointment must:

i.) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

And

ii.) Have five years’ full time (or equivalent) years post qualification clinical experience of which four years’ full time (or equivalent) must be in the specialist area of acute Stroke, including the assessment and treatment of patients who have sustained an acute Stroke.

And

iii.) Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence.

And

iv.) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses.

And

v.) Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research.

And

vi.) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

And

vii. Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

Annual Registration

(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

And

(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post specific requirements1. The candidate must demonstrate sufficient depth & breadth of recent experience relevant to the role, in an acute adult teaching hospital within the Irish Health Service.

2. Demonstrate depth and breadth of recent post qualification experience working in an acute care teaching hospital across a range of specialities including working with adult Stroke patients including in an Intensive Care Unit and an Acute Stroke Unit with new onset Stroke patients.

3. Demonstrate depth and breadth of recent post graduate experience with Stroke patients, in all of the following:

• Undertaking and interpreting cognitive and perceptual Assessments
• Management of spasticity and tone
• 24-hour posture management and positioning
• Management of Edema
