Ship Broker

About Lighthouse:

We are a global trading house with a strong focus on chemicals and liquid commodity trading. Our team operates across key markets worldwide, and our Shanghai office is an integral part of our operations. We are looking for a Ship Broker to join our team to assist in managing the logistics of our bulk liquid cargo business with a focus on ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective shipping solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Chartering & Freight Negotiations:

o Assist in the chartering process for the transportation of bulk liquid chemicals, including the identification and selection of vessels.

o Negotiate freight rates and contracts of affreightment in line with the company’s shipping strategy and market conditions.

o Handle charter parties and freight contracts, ensuring all terms are compliant with legal, operational, and safety standards.

• Logistics & Operations Oversight:

o Coordinate with internal teams (such as trading, logistics, and operations) to ensure seamless execution of voyages and mitigate operational risks.

o Supervise and track vessels' performance during voyages, ensuring adherence to schedules, safety standards, and compliance with relevant regulations.

• Market Intelligence & Reporting:

o Monitor and analyze the shipping market trends and freight rates for chemicals and ensure the company remains competitive.

o Provide regular updates and reports on market conditions, fleet performance, and shipping costs.

• Risk & Compliance Management:

o Ensure full compliance with international maritime laws, regulations, and environmental standards.

• Relationship Management:

o Develop and maintain strong relationships with vessel owners, port agents, and other key stakeholders in the shipping industry.

o Collaborate with the wider trading, commercial, and finance teams to enhance shipping efficiency and profitability.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience:

o Minimum 3 years of experience in chartering, ship brokerage, or related shipping operations, with a focus on bulk liquid cargoes such as chemicals, CPP, or palm oils.

o Proven track record in negotiating charter parties, managing chartering operations, and optimizing vessel allocation.

o Strong understanding of the global shipping market and its impact on commodity trading.

• Education:

o Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business, Logistics, or a related field.

o Additional certifications or qualifications in shipping and logistics are a plus.

• Skills & Competencies:

o Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

o Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, and other shipping software tools.

o Highly analytical and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

• Languages:

o Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese (written and spoken)

• Cultural & Regional Experience:

o Familiarity with the Chinese market and the ability to navigate its business environment.

o Ability to work on an international and multi-cultural team.
