The Standards Engineer serves as the liaison between Marmon Innovation & Technology (I&T) and Marmon Engineered Wire & Cable manufacturing facilities regarding industry standards development, product listings, certifications, and approvals. This role is responsible for supporting product development initiatives, laboratory activities, qualification testing, and regulatory compliance efforts. Success in this position requires active participation in industry standards committees, collaboration with certification agencies, and coordination with engineering and manufacturing teams across multiple locations.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Attend industry standards committee meetings and provide technical input and recommendations.
- Communicate and coordinate with manufacturing personnel, engineers, and other stakeholders regarding the interpretation and implementation of industry standards.
- Visit certification and listing agencies and follow up on active projects and approvals.
- Maintain technical documentation, records, and project files as required.
- Coordinate product testing activities and ensure proper documentation of test data and results.
- Schedule, track, and report on the status of active product development programs.
- Supervise designated sample production runs when required to support product development and qualification efforts.
- Conduct or direct specialized qualification testing that requires advanced technical expertise and/or offsite support.
- Prepare technical reports, test documentation, certification submissions, and related paperwork.
- Support organizational initiatives requiring specialized technical knowledge and engineering expertise.
- Collaborate with UL and other certification agencies to support new product listings, certification projects, audits, and maintenance of existing files across multiple facilities.
- Assist with the operation and audit readiness of the UL DAP Laboratory, ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and internal quality procedures.
- Travel as needed to manufacturing facilities, industry committee meetings, testing laboratories, and listing agencies.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field required; OR an Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline combined with relevant industry experience.
- Working knowledge of engineering, manufacturing, testing, and certification processes.
- Computer proficiency with experience using databases and technical software applications; programming experience is a plus.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and project management skills.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, standards, testing requirements, and engineering documentation.
- Ability to prepare technical reports, papers, and supporting documentation.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented professional capable of working independently.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple functions and locations.
- Effective time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with UL, CSA, or other certification and listing agencies.
- Knowledge of wire and cable products, testing standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory requirements and audit processes.
- Experience participating in industry standards organizations and technical committees.
