THE ROLE

As a Structural Engineering Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals on meaningful projects that shape the natural environment. You’ll gain hands‑on exposure to planning, design, and construction activities—building practical skills, confidence, and a clearer vision for your future in structural engineering. Morrison-Maierle provides civil engineering design and consulting for projects related to transportation, airports, industrial, municipal infrastructures, water, land development, environmental, fisheries, hydropower, survey, planning, CAD, and buildings focused on structural, mechanical, electrical and information communication technology.

In this role, the intern will learn how infrastructure is integrated in the natural environment, supporting water retention and storage systems, conveyance structures, flow control and regulation systems, safety and measurement structures, and the rehabilitation of critical water infrastructure including fisheries and hydropower projects.

These responsibilities include:

Collaborate with design teams to support project tasks.
Provide support with construction observation and site inspections to understand how design work comes together.
Learn planning, modeling, design, and delivery of complex structural projects, including fish passage and screening, hydropower, and hydraulic structures.
Develop a solid understanding of engineering principles within a consulting engineering environment.
Gain hands-on exposure to engineering teams, construction methods, contractors, and contract administration processes.
Learn safety standards, field protocols, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Strengthen communication skills through regular collaboration with engineers, project managers, and contractors.

YOUR STRENGTHS

Currently pursuing a four-year degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with an emphasis in Structural Engineering, or similar ABET-accredited engineering program
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Self-starter with a willingness to learn
