We're looking for a passionate and skilled Tenant Advocate to support individuals and whānau experiencing housing insecurity and tenancy-related challenges. In this rewarding role, you'll provide advocacy, advice, and practical support that helps people understand their tenancy rights, navigate complex situations, and achieve sustainable housing outcomes.
Working alongside people facing a range of challenges, you'll build positive relationships with clients, landlords, housing providers, government agencies, and community organisations, helping to create lasting change in people's lives.
What you'll do
- Provide tenancy advice, advocacy, and practical support to clients experiencing housing and tenancy challenges.
- Support clients through tenancy disputes, mediation, and Tenancy Tribunal processes.
- Advocate with landlords, housing providers, and government agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
- Assist clients to understand their rights and responsibilities under tenancy legislation.
- Build strong relationships with community partners and referral agencies.
- Maintain accurate client records and contribute to service reporting and development.
What you'll bring
- Experience supporting people with complex social, housing, or financial challenges.
- Strong advocacy, relationship-building, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of tenancy legislation and tenancy advocacy processes, or the ability to quickly develop this expertise.
- A client-centred, strengths-based approach to working with people.
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Understanding of, and commitment to, Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- A full New Zealand Driver Licence.
- Alignment with the values and mission of the Christchurch City Mission.
