Responsibilities

Position Purpose:

The Tax Lead – Asia Pacific is responsible for overseeing and coordinating tax matters across StoneX’s Asia Pacific operations. The role provides regional tax and technical guidance, supports business initiatives and legal-entity changes, and ensures that tax risks and compliance obligations are appropriately managed.

Working closely with regional finance teams, business leaders, legal, treasury, accounting, and external advisers, the Tax Lead will serve as the primary tax contact for the Asia Pacific region. The position will also partner with the global tax organization to ensure that regional activities are consistent with the organization’s global tax policies, governance framework, and strategic objectives.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical judgment, effective stakeholder management, and the ability to coordinate tax matters across multiple jurisdictions.

Primary duties will include:

Regional Tax Management and Governance

  • Serve as the primary tax contact for Stonex’s operations in the Asia Pacific region.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and management of regional tax risks.
  • Ensure that material tax matters are appropriately communicated and escalated to the Global Head of Tax.
  • Support the implementation and consistent application of global tax policies, controls, and governance procedures throughout the region.
  • Coordinate regional tax activities across local finance teams, shared-service functions, and external advisers.
  • Monitor relevant legislative, regulatory, and administrative developments and assess their potential impact on the organization.

Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Oversee corporate income tax compliance, tax-payment obligations, statutory filings, and related processes across Asia Pacific jurisdictions.
  • Oversee GST, VAT, consumption tax, sales and use tax, and other indirect tax compliance, reporting, payment, and advisory matters across the region.
  • Oversee tax planning activities related to corporate income tax, ensuring alignment with business strategy, operational requirements, and global tax policy.
  • Coordinate the preparation and review of tax provisions, deferred-tax calculations, effective tax rate analyses, and other tax-reporting deliverables.
  • Review significant tax positions and ensure that they are appropriately documented and supported.
  • Monitor compliance calendars and work with local teams and external advisers to ensure timely and accurate filings.
  • Support internal and external audits relating to tax accounts, tax provisions, indirect taxes, and financial-statement disclosures.
  • Assist with global tax-reporting and information-reporting requirements affecting Asia Pacific entities.

Tax Advisory, Planning, and Business Support

  • Advise business, finance, legal, treasury, and other stakeholders on the tax implications of transactions, operational decisions, and tax planning opportunities.
  • Provide tax planning support for new products, market entries, restructurings, acquisitions, divestitures, financing arrangements, capital movements, and changes to legal-entity structures.
  • Evaluate corporate income tax, withholding tax, indirect tax, permanent-establishment, transfer-pricing, and other relevant tax considerations in both planning and advisory contexts.
  • Develop practical, commercially informed recommendations that appropriately balance business objectives, tax efficiency, operational requirements, and risk.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and ensure that tax planning considerations are identified early in the decision-making process.

Transfer Pricing and Intercompany Matters

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the organization’s transfer-pricing policies within the Asia Pacific region.
  • Review intercompany arrangements and coordinate the preparation and maintenance of supporting agreements and transfer-pricing documentation.
  • Work with finance and accounting teams to ensure that intercompany charges are calculated, recorded, invoiced, and settled consistently with applicable policies.
  • Identify and address transfer-pricing risks, including those arising from changes in business operations, personnel, functions, assets, or risk allocation.
  • Coordinate with global tax colleagues and external advisers regarding local documentation, benchmarking, and controversy matters.

Tax Audits and Controversy

  • Manage or coordinate tax audits, inquiries, assessments, and disputes involving Asia Pacific entities.
  • Develop audit-response strategies and work with internal stakeholders and external advisers to prepare submissions and supporting documentation.
  • Evaluate proposed adjustments, penalties, settlement opportunities, and litigation risks.
  • Maintain clear records of open tax matters, exposures, reserves, deadlines, and required actions.
  • Keep Global Head of Tax global informed of significant developments and potential financial or reputational exposure.

Process Improvement and Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain effective tax processes, controls, documentation standards, and review procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and accuracy of regional tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities, with the particular focus on the use of AI.
  • Support tax-technology, data-management, and process-automation initiatives.
  • Promote appropriate tax awareness among regional finance and business teams through guidance and training.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of tax-risk registers, process documentation, and internal-control materials.

Qualifications

To land this role you will need:

  • Degree in accounting, finance, law, taxation, economics, or related discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualification, such as SCTP, CPA, Chartered Accountant, , or equivalent tax credential.
  • Corporate tax experience gained in a multinational organization, Big 4 firm, law firm, or a combination of these environments.
  • Experience with tax matters affecting businesses operating across multiple Asia Pacific jurisdictions.
  • Experience in financial services or another highly regulated multinational industry, whether through an inhouse position or matters handled at a professional services firm.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate income tax, tax accounting, withholding tax, transfer pricing, and international tax principles.
  • Experience overseeing tax compliance, reporting, and planning processes involving multiple entities and jurisdictions.
  • Experience managing tax audits, tax authority inquiries, and external advisers.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify tax risks, exercise sound judgment, and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and operate effectively within a global matrix organization.

  • Experience supporting acquisitions, restructurings, legal-entity changes, financing transactions, or business expansions.
  • Knowledge of OECD initiatives, including the BEPS framework, country-by-country reporting, and global minimum-tax developments.
  • Experience with tax-provision and financial-reporting requirements under U.S. GAAP accounting framework.
  • Experience with tax-technology platforms, enterprise-resource-planning systems, and data-analysis tools.
  • Experience working with geographically dispersed teams and stakeholders.
