Apatisiwin Youth Employment Counsellor

The Dryden Native Friendship Centre is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and culturally grounded Apatisiwin Youth Employment Counsellor to join our team. Working with Indigenous youth and adults, you will provide holistic employment counselling, career planning, and employment readiness supports that empower individuals to achieve meaningful and sustainable employment while overcoming barriers through a strengths-based, client-centred approach.

POSITION DETAILS:

• Schedule: 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday – Friday, one hour un-paid lunch
• Status: Regular Full-Time
• Compensation: $51,125 per annum

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

• Provide one-on-one employment counselling, career exploration, and goal setting
• Complete client intakes, needs assessments, and individualized employment action plans
• Assist clients with resume writing, cover letters, interview preparation, and job search strategies
• Support clients in identifying and overcoming barriers to employment
• Deliver employment readiness workshops and life skills programming
• Connect clients to training, education, certifications, and employment opportunities
• Build and maintain relationships with employers, training providers, and community partners
• Support job placement, retention, and employer engagement initiatives
• Maintain accurate client files, documentation, statistics, and program reports
• Integrate Indigenous teachings, cultural values, and holistic approaches into service delivery
• Participate in community events, team meetings, and program development initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Required:
  • Post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, Career Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in employment counselling, case management, or community-based support services
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, urban Indigenous experiences, and systemic barriers
  • Knowledge of local labour market trends, employment resources, and community services
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
• Assets:
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License
  • Knowledge of Indigenous language and culture
  • Experience working within Indigenous organizations or Friendship Centres
  • Experience delivering workshops or group facilitation

WORK CONDITIONS:

• Primarily office-based with regular client interaction.
• Occasional travel within the community for outreach, meetings, workshops, and job fairs.
• Fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
• Some flexibility in hours may be required to meet program needs.
