Assistant Project Manager - $235M Design-Build Student Union (CSULB)

The Work

California State University, Long Beach is renovating and expanding its University Student Union, a $235 million project delivered through collaborative design-build, where one team designs and builds the project and works through the design with the University. The project runs from July 2024 into mid 2028. It renovates 180,000 gross square feet of the existing building, including 160,000 square feet of indoor space and 20,000 square feet of covered outdoor walkways and seating, and adds 50,000 gross square feet of new space. The building will hold food service, a wellness center, cultural and other resource centers, a career center, offices, lounges, event and meeting space, and recreation space, along with accessibility upgrades and site work.

As Assistant Project Manager, you support the University's project leadership on site through design, construction, and closeout. You keep the meeting record, track the schedule, follow the paperwork, and support the design-build team and campus stakeholders so decisions and documents keep moving.

What You Will Own

Meeting minutes, action items, and follow up for project meetings

Schedule tracking against the design-build team's schedule, with regular updates to the project team

Support to the design-build team and the University through design, construction, and closeout

Tracking of RFIs (requests for information), submittals, and change orders

Support with budget tracking and monthly project reports

Coordination with campus stakeholders and the University's project team

Site walks and field support as needed

Closeout and turnover support

Requirements

What You Bring

4 to 7 years of experience supporting complex construction projects (required for this role)

A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or architecture (required for this role)

The ability to read and understand construction plans

Clear writing and organized record keeping

Availability to work on site at the Long Beach campus, in person only (required for this role)

Preferred

Design-build experience

A PMP (Project Management Professional), CCM (Certified Construction Manager), or DBIA (Design-Build Institute of America) credential

University or public campus construction experience

Compensation

Salary range: $165,000 to $180,000 per year, based on experience.
