About this role

The Bermuda Shipping and Maritime Authority is seeking a highly organized and customer-focused professional to join our Registry Department as an Assistant Registrar of Shipping. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support one of the world's leading shipping registries while working with both local and international maritime clients.


The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Administering ship registration activities for Bermuda-flagged vessels.
  • Maintaining registry data and records within the Bermuda Online Ship Registry System (BOSS).
  • Managing the issuance and renewal of radio licenses, including client communications and regulatory liaison.
  • Assisting with accounts receivable processes and collections in collaboration with senior management.
  • Maintaining and updating Bermuda's International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ship station list.
  • Liaising with the Registry General's Department regarding births, deaths, and marriage officer applications for Bermuda-registered vessels.
  • Providing general administrative support and undertaking other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Deputizing for the Registrar of Shipping when required.


Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, Commerce, Public Administration, Law, Accountancy, a technical discipline, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the confidence to build relationships with local and international stakeholders.
  • A high degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, AI literacy.
  • Knowledge of ship registration, corporate secretarial functions, international trade, and business law would be considered an asset. Applicants must also be willing to work weekends and public holidays when required.
