About Lead For Ghana

Lead For Ghana is a network of solution-driven leaders expanding educational opportunities to all children in Ghana. We are a Ghanaian not-for-profit social enterprise powered by our resolute belief that education is the most powerful solution to all societal problems and the medium to provide equal opportunities. With this conviction, we devote our people, resources, and ideas to ensure an excellent education for all children in Ghana.

We are currently in search of an impassioned individual who shares our vision and mission and aligns with our core beliefs: Responsibility is Mutual, Innovation is Simple, and Impossible is Nothing. These values are the pillars of our culture, driving our long-term success and sustainability, and form a crucial part of our team member selection process.

Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Director, Leadership Growth owns the design, quality, and continuous improvement of Lead For Ghana's leadership development strategy across the Fellowship and Alumni journey. This role sits above the day-to-day coaching function performed by Leadership Development Managers (LDMs): the Director sets the leadership curriculum and standards those managers execute against, builds and manages the LDM team, and ensures leadership development is evidence-based, consistent across regions, and tightly linked to organizational impact goals. The Director, Leadership Growth translates Lead For Ghana's theory of change into a coherent, measurable leadership growth model spanning Training Institute, in-service coaching, and the transition into Alumni leadership roles.

Team Overview

The Leadership Growth team develops and supports Associates and Alumni to achieve transformative systemic change in Ghana and bridge classroom and system leadership — enabling the organization to build the reflective capacity necessary to accelerate impact over time and ultimately bring about more equitable outcomes for an ever greater number of children. The Director, Leadership Growth leads the leadership development function within this team, managing a caseload of LDMs and partnering closely with Recruitment, Alumni Engagement, and Program Design.

Key Measures of Success

  • Leadership Development Impact: Associates and Alumni demonstrate measurable growth against Lead For Ghana's leadership competency framework, tracked from Training Institute through the two-year Fellowship and into the Alumni Network.
  • Team Performance: LDMs meet or exceed coaching-quality and Fellow-retention benchmarks; the LDM team itself has strong retention and a clear professional growth pathway.
  • Program Coherence: Leadership development content and delivery are standardized and evidence-based across all regions of operation.
  • Pipeline to Systemic Change: A growing, trackable share of Alumni move into leadership roles (education sector and beyond) that advance Lead For Ghana's long-term theory of change.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Curriculum Design

  • Own and continuously refine Lead For Ghana's leadership development framework, ensuring alignment with the organization's short- and long-term theory of change.
  • Design the content and pedagogy for Training Institute and ongoing in-service leadership development, grounded in the Ghanaian educational landscape and curriculum.
  • Set the standards, tools, and rubrics LDMs use to coach and evaluate Fellows' classroom and leadership growth.

Team Leadership & Management

  • Recruit, manage, coach, and develop a team of Leadership Development Managers across regions.
  • Build a strong, trusting team culture and hold the team accountable to Fellow retention, experience, and impact benchmarks.
  • Manage caseload distribution and workload prioritization across a fast-paced, multi-functional team.

Data, Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish data tracking and evaluation systems to measure leadership growth and classroom effectiveness at both the Fellow and program level.
  • Use data to identify what is and isn't working, and iterate on curriculum, coaching models, and support mechanisms accordingly.
  • Report on leadership development outcomes to organizational leadership and, where relevant, external stakeholders and funders.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with Recruitment to ensure incoming Associates are set up for leadership success from day one.
  • Partner with Alumni Engagement to ensure the leadership pipeline extends meaningfully beyond the two-year Fellowship.
  • Represent leadership development priorities in organizational strategy and planning discussions.

Competencies Required

  • Deep understanding of Lead For Ghana's short- and long-term theory of change.
  • Track record of designing leadership or professional development programs that produced measurable results, not just delivered content.
  • People management experience — proven ability to manage, coach, and grow a team of managers, not just individual contributors.
  • Strong understanding of the Ghanaian educational landscape, context, and curriculum.
  • Strong research, data-tracking, and evaluation skills; comfort making decisions from evidence rather than instinct alone.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize across a varied, demanding workload in a fast-paced, multi-functional team.
  • Strong written, analytical, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence peers and senior leadership.
  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, and a high sense of possibility.
  • Emotional stability and adaptability when faced with setbacks or high-pressure situations.
  • Comfort operating in a start-up, interdisciplinary team with a “flat” organizational structure.

Educational Background and Work Experience

  • Graduate/Professional degree in Education, Organizational Leadership, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in education, leadership development, or talent development, including experience designing and managing programs at scale.
  • Prior people-management experience is required; experience managing managers (not just individual contributors) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering high-impact leadership training, workshops, or coaching programs.
  • Experience with monitoring & evaluation or data-driven program design, desired.
