Engineer Associate Staff, Process

Overview

Reporting to the NPI Manager, the process Engineer leads the research, development, and implementation efforts of new or improved manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Acts as mentor to less senior engineers.
• Leads projects for the research, development, and implementation of new processes & materials with a focus on joining processes using adhesives, soldering, welding and mechanical attachment:

Propose and implement innovative solutions for manufacturing process problems

Performs experiments to compile and evaluate test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications

Creates project plans including, creation of schedules, design of experiments, development of equipment, budgetary considerations, and process implementation.

Introduces new processes and equipment into production with a high-quality level, on time and budget to meet the project requirements

• Use technologies and processes to manufacture products that improve manufacturing impact on employee health, safety, and environmental improvements.
• Align with site operations & work with Product Development to draft the process strategy, provide Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA) input into the new product designs
• Works with Quality Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to create process flows, Plant-Layouts (Mfg/Assembly Line Design), Control Plans, Standard Work, Operator Instructions, Inspection Gaging Plans, Process FMEA’s, Value Stream Maps, etc. for new processes
• Act as process contact window to Niles Corporate team
• Support exiting MOL and new products with equipment trials including adhesive dispense, press fit, auto solder, laser marking, vision inspection and validation and other equipment trials.
• Periodically visits outside supplier Manufacturing Facilities and suggests areas for process improvement and/or automation to improve quality, safety, or reduced cost.
• Creates and maintains project documentation, including but not limited to schedules, drawings, lab notebooks, process reports, and project files.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in machine vision system setup, including camera, lens, lighting, image acquisition, calibration, and algorithm tuning.
• Experience with vision platforms such as Cognex, Keyence, Halcon, OpenCV, or similar systems.
• Basic knowledge of automation equipment, PLC, MES interface, and manufacturing system integration.
• Strong troubleshooting, data analysis, project management, and cross-functional communication skills.
• Knowledge of Python, SQL, Power BI, or AI/deep learning-based vision inspection is preferred.
• Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering
• Good English Skill
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in machine vision, vision inspection, automated inspection, or related manufacturing inspection applications.
• Experience managing projects related to new process implementation, vision inspection implementation, capital equipment design, construction and implementation, or new product/process design changes.
• Demonstrated ability to work on complex assignments where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
