At Smiths Detection, we are looking for a commercially minded Financial Analyst to join our ANZ Finance team and play a key role in driving business performance through insightful analysis, forecasting and strategic financial support.

This role will partner closely with Finance, Sales, Programs and Regional Leadership teams, providing financial insights that support informed decision-making and profitable growth across Australia and New Zealand.

What You'll Do

Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

• Prepare financial analysis and reporting to support business decisions and operational performance.
• Analyze revenue, margins, costs and profitability trends, identifying key drivers and variances.
• Investigate monthly revenue fluctuations and expenditure movements, providing meaningful commentary and recommendations.
• Deliver product, service and customer profitability analysis to ANZ leadership.
• Review monthly order intake, backlog and reporting accuracy.
• Support month-end reporting activities and management presentations.

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Partner with budget owners to understand business performance and key drivers.
• Support annual budgeting, strategic planning and monthly forecasting cycles.
• Coordinate forecasting inputs from multiple stakeholders across the ANZ region.
• Prepare variance analysis between Actuals, Budget, Forecast and Prior Year results.
• Identify cost overruns and performance gaps, recommending corrective actions.
• Act as a trusted finance partner to regional management on financial planning matters.

Commercial Business Partnering

• Support sales bids and commercial proposals through financial modelling and analysis.
• Partner with Sales leadership to develop financial forecasts and market outlooks.
• Analyze margins, cash flow implications and commercial risks associated with opportunities.
• Challenge assumptions, benchmark costs and provide recommendations to improve profitability.
• Support financial decision-making across the business through data-driven insights.

Program Financial Support

• Partner with Program Managers and Finance teams to provide financial visibility across active programs.
• Monitor program profitability, margins, costs and cash flow performance.
• Support accurate and timely financial reporting for program portfolios.
• Review balance sheet items, including inventory, work-in-progress and program-related accounts.
• Monitor foreign exchange impacts and profitability variances against approved business cases.
• Provide regular reporting and commentary to key stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to automate, streamline and enhance financial reporting processes.
• Improve data quality, reporting accuracy and analytical capabilities across the finance function.
• Drive efficiencies through digital tools and process improvements.
• Support internal and external audit activities as required.
• Participate in ad hoc financial projects and business initiatives.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline.
• Full professional membership with CPA or CA.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial Modelling or Commercial Finance.
• Strong experience supporting budgets, forecasts, business cases and project financial analysis.
• Minimum 3 years' experience working with SAP and related reporting tools.
• Experience working within IFRS and AASB reporting environments.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, chart of accounts and financial controls.

Technical Skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to manipulate and analyze large data sets.
• Strong proficiency in PowerPoint and Word.
• Experience with SAP, SmartView, Onyx, CPM or similar financial planning/reporting systems.
• Ability to build robust financial models and perform detailed variance analysis.
• Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting and profitability analysis.
• High attention to detail and data accuracy.
