We have established a Colombo office in Sri Lanka in 2025 and are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious International Ecologist who is dedicated and passionate about their work.

The company develops and implements innovative and effective environmental, water, energy and sustainability solutions, providing specialist advice and hands-on capabilities in a diverse range of environmental management areas. Ecological assessment is a key aspect of many of the Earth System’s projects.

About the role

We are currently seeking a young, talented, specialist ecologist, preferably with international experience in ecological impact assessment, to join our team and help develop and expand our business. In this role, you will work on diverse and exciting projects alongside our international offices for a wide range of public- and private-sector national and international clients.

Principal Duties

• Undertake ecological and environmental management and assessments for forestry, agriculture and restoration projects.
• Project manage and oversee technical ecology inputs for a variety of consulting
  projects.
• Provide specialist technical inputs in planning and implementation of ecological investigations e.g. baseline ecological surveys, targeted flora and fauna surveys, habitat assessment and offset suitability.

• Assist with restoration projects that deliver carbon sequestration and biodiversity benefits

• Support business generation activities and identify opportunities.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations for diverse stakeholders in English.

• Collaborate with colleagues worldwide to deliver high-quality ecosystem outcomes

Key Selection Criteria

• A relevant postgraduate qualification.
• Specialist ecological skills (e.g. botany, ornithology, herpetology etc.) or other relevant skills (e.g. forestry) with suitable field experience.
• Direct experience in ecological and environmental impact assessment.
• An interest in international ecology.
• The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Exceptional written and verbal English language communication skills.
• Familiarity with international standards relevant to ecology e.g. IFC and IUCN.
• A passion for ecology and the environment.

Other Skills and Experience:

The following skills and experience will be highly regarded:

• Previous international experience in EIA and environmental management/approvals in relation to infrastructure, resources and other large- scale projects will be highly regarded,
• Experience in agricultural and agroforestry,
• Proficiency in Tamil and Sinhala,
• Proficiency in GIS software and field data collection tools (e.g. QGIS), and
• Experience in planning and delivering ecological field programs.
