Peer Support Worker – Hepatitis C

The North Lambton Community Health Centre is a community-governed health centre serving identified priority populations in a defined catchment area. The Centre operates multiple sites in Ontario: Forest, Kettle & Stony Point, Watford, and Sarnia. Our interdisciplinary team provides primary health care, health promotion and community development services.

As part of the Harm Reduction/Hepatitis C Care Team, funded by the HIV and Hepatitis C Programs – Provincial Programs Branch, the North Lambton Community Health Centre is currently seeking applicants for the following position:

Peer Worker Hepatitis C

Contract from October 2026 - March 31, 2027

22.5 Hours/Week

The Peer Support Worker builds trusting relationships with people who may face barriers to hepatitis C testing and care. Drawing on lived or living experience, the worker provides connection, encouragement and practical support in community settings. As part of the Hepatitis C and Substance Use Health Outreach Team, the worker helps people feel comfortable accessing testing and services while respecting their choices. This non-clinical role is grounded in voluntary participation, mutual respect and person-centred support.

Qualifications:

• A post-secondary diploma or degree is not required.
• Lived experience, relationship-building ability and readiness to learn are central qualifications;
• Relevant personal lived or living experience of substance use, hepatitis C, or related barriers such as stigma, housing instability or difficulty accessing services, and a willingness to draw on that experience thoughtfully in supporting others.
• Ability to connect with people in a warm, respectful and non-judgmental way, listen patiently and respect different choices and perspectives.
• Understanding of harm reduction and willingness to learn about peer support, trauma-informed approaches and culturally respectful practice.
• Ability to follow through on agreed commitments and communicate concerns to the appropriate team member. Community connections and informal or volunteer peer support experience are assets.
• Peer support training is an asset.

This position enjoys a supportive environment with flexible hours, 22.5 hours per week Monday to Friday.
