As a QA/QC Technical Reviewer- Structural, you will play a key role in providing technical review and quality assurance/quality control for structural engineering plans, specifications, and construction projects. Working alongside District personnel, commissioned architects and engineers, consultant staff, Owner Authorized Representatives, Inspectors, Design Managers, and public agency representatives, you will help ensure projects meet applicable codes, standards, District requirements, and quality expectations.

About Your Role

The QA/QC Technical Reviewer- Structural will perform technical review of proposed structural plans and specifications submitted by District personnel, consultant staff, or commissioned architects and engineers for construction projects. This role involves reviewing structural design and documentation for adherence to District standards, quality, constructability, coordination with other disciplines, building codes, and technical requirements. The position will also provide technical comments and recommendations, support the development and maintenance of District design guidelines and standards, review proposed product substitutions and deviations from District standards, and provide structural technical advice to Owner Authorized Representatives, Inspectors, Design Managers, and A/E teams.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field from a recognized college or university required.
• Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the educational requirement, on a year-for-year basis.

What You'll Need to Get the Job Done

• Ten (10) years of full-time paid professional experience in structural engineering planning, design, and construction of educational facilities.
• Valid California Professional Engineer (PE) license by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
• Knowledge of architecture and structural engineering practices applied to repairs, modernizations, and new construction of K-12 school building planning, design, and construction.
• Knowledge of architectural and structural engineering specifications and related contract documents.
• Knowledge of state and local building codes and construction industry standards and their application to school construction, including the California Building Code (CBC), Cal Green Energy Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRE), and American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM).
• Knowledge of architectural and structural engineering systems, building materials, and building costs.
• Knowledge of the requirements of the Division of the State Architect (DSA) and California Department of Education (CDE).
• Knowledge of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS), and other sustainability requirements.
• Knowledge of commissioning processes and documentation requirements.
• Ability to perform quality assurance/quality control, constructability, and peer reviews of District projects in design and construction.
• Ability to prepare and review structural standards and specifications for school buildings and other structures.
• Ability to provide structural technical review and advice on proposed product substitutions, deviations from District standards, and technical questions from Owner Authorized Representatives (OARs), Inspectors, Design Managers, and A/E teams.
• Ability to provide sustained attention to complex specifications and provide clear, detailed comments.
• Ability to write clear and concise reports and technical descriptions for District engineering standards and project reviews.
• Ability to work effectively with commissioned architects and engineers, District personnel, consultant staff, and representatives of public agencies.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid California Structural Engineer (SE) license by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
• Experience with structural engineering planning, design, and construction of K-12 educational facilities.
• Experience performing quality assurance/quality control, constructability, and peer reviews.
• Experience preparing and reviewing structural standards and specifications for school buildings and other structures.
• Experience with California Building Code (CBC), Cal Green Energy Code, OSHA, ASHRE, and ASTM requirements.
• Familiarity with Division of the State Architect (DSA) and California Department of Education (CDE) requirements.
• Familiarity with LEED, CHPS, and other sustainability requirements.
• Experience with commissioning processes and documentation requirements.
• Experience providing technical review and advice regarding product substitutions, deviations from District standards, and technical questions.
• Experience working with commissioned architects and engineers, District personnel, consultant staff, and public agencies.

What You'll Do

• Perform technical review of proposed structural plans and specifications submitted by District personnel, consultant staff, or commissioned architects and engineers for construction projects.
• Provide review comments regarding adherence to District standards, quality of development and documentation of structural design, coordination with other disciplines, and other technical issues as required.
• Provide comments, lessons learned, and research to support the development and maintenance of the District's Design Guidelines, including the School Design Guide, Educational Specifications, Guide Technical Specifications, and Standard Technical Drawings for the Facilities Services Division.
• Provide comments and lessons learned to update and maintain District policies and guides for the design of educational facilities and/or District construction structural specifications to assure conformance to building codes and safety requirements and to improve the quality and economy of construction, maintenance, and operation.
• Coordinate activities with those of other units of Design and A/E Technical Support and other District organizations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary

• $196,000.00 – $208,000.00 annually
