About the Role 馃

We鈥檙e looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer to develop commercially viable, market-ready engineering solutions with a strong focus on feasibility, material excellence, structural integrity, and manufacturability.

In this role, you鈥檒l work at the front end of the product lifecycle, bridging the gap between innovative concepts and scalable mass production. You鈥檒l act as a key technical expert, using your deep understanding of materials and structures, to ensure new product designs are robust, high-performing, and optimised for dynamic environments.

Please note; this role is offered as an 18 month fixed term contract.

What You'll Do 馃挱

  • Create innovative, consumer-focused products engineered to withstand demanding automotive & active-use environments

  • Support research and feasibility assessments for new technologies, materials and product concepts

  • Translate customer and market needs into clear engineering requirements, design tasks and measurable performance benchmarks

  • Prototype, test and refine concepts through iterative design-build-test cycles

  • Manage concurrent design projects, ensuring they are completed within set timeframes and meet all structural performance constraints

  • Seek to eliminate technical and functional risks during the design phase, utilising engineering principles to predict how materials and geometries will behave during dynamic events

  • Create detailed parametric 3D CAD models, drawings, specifications and BOMs using SolidWorks

  • Review and conduct testing on pre-production samples

  • Work with the Manufacturing team, suppliers and manufacturers to obtain quotations and DFM input

  • Design and develop products that are consistent and recognisable via visual brand language & styling

  • Coordinate the design and engineering product packaging solutions to set parameters

  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative and respectful design team culture

  • What You'll Bring 馃

  • Extensive experience in a similar role, creating innovative, consumer-led product design solutions
  • Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design or Technology

  • Ability to interpret and convert high level product requirements into executable and clear design tasks

  • Able to clearly communicate design ideas and concepts via sketching, CAD modelling and various methods of prototyping

  • Comprehensive understanding of design & engineering principles and highly capable of applying these during the product development process

  • Ability to generate fully defined parametric 3D CAD models for manufacturing and illustrative purposes utilising SolidWorks

  • Experience in iterative concept validation and the fabrication of prototypes for testing form, fit, and functional mechanical performance

  • Extensive experience and understanding of DFM design for manufacturing principles, with the ability to apply these in practice when developing product design solutions

  • Excellent knowledge & understanding of various manufacturing processes and production methods

  • Effective time management skills to achieve all objectives within defined time frames and commercial constraints

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

    Desirable Experience:

  • Hands-on knowledge in a wide range of polymers and elastomers, particularly their behaviour under dynamic loading

  • Track record of designing products for impact, vibration, dampening or other dynamic environments

  • Experience interfacing with customers in the automotive OEM industry or equivalent sectors

  • We know that great candidates don't always tick every box. If this role excites you and your skills and experience are broadly aligned, we encourage you to apply. We'd love to hear what you can bring to the team.

If You Were In This Role Last Week...

Last week, you may have provided your technical input into a new product idea during a Design Review, refined a concept in SolidWorks before testing a prototype to breaking point in the Dungeon lab, discussed off-tool sample feedback with suppliers, and worked with the design team to improve performance, fit, packaging and brand alignment before the next development milestone.
