Senior Staff Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer based in India.

This is a senior engineering role focused on building and evolving a sophisticated media intelligence platform and its supporting systems.
You’ll work across backend and frontend development, primarily using Ruby on Rails and VueJS.
The role combines hands-on software engineering with architectural design, technical problem-solving, and delivery leadership.
You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, business stakeholders, customers, and fellow engineers to turn complex requirements into scalable solutions.
AI-assisted development tools will be part of the workflow, with an emphasis on responsible use, code quality, security, and testing.
You’ll contribute throughout the full software lifecycle, from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

• Collaborate with product managers, business developers, account managers, customers, and engineering teams to understand product requirements and business challenges.

• Design software and data structures that address complex requirements, extending existing architecture or introducing new components where appropriate.

• Evaluate external libraries, services, APIs, and other technologies that can accelerate development and improve solutions.

• Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot responsibly, critically reviewing generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, and performance.

• Develop version-controlled applications primarily with Ruby on Rails on the backend and VueJS on the frontend, following engineering best practices and established conventions.

• Build automated unit and end-to-end tests to validate functionality and protect product quality.

• Participate in code reviews and automated quality checks, while reviewing contributions from other engineers for accuracy, maintainability, and efficiency.

• Deploy solutions to preview and staging environments, gather stakeholder feedback, and refine implementations as needed.

• Merge and deploy approved code to production environments and monitor releases for unexpected behavior or performance issues.

• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve product and performance issues reported by internal or external users.

• Lead or contribute to complex software systems and provide technical guidance on engineering practices and solution design.

Requirements

• 8–10 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and VueJS, along with relevant backend and frontend technologies.

• Proven ability to design, develop, debug, and troubleshoot complex software systems.

• Experience leading or delivering technically complex software initiatives from design through production.

• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, architecture, testing, maintainability, and code quality.

• Ability to use AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly, with strong judgment regarding the quality, security, and correctness of AI-generated code.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong problem-solving skills and a structured approach to diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues.

• Ability to provide technical guidance and recommend appropriate engineering practices and solutions.

• DevOps experience, particularly with Kubernetes and Elasticsearch, is a plus.

• Experience in media, news, or content-related technology environments is highly advantageous.

• Familiarity with Excel, project management tools, CRM platforms, or Boolean search is a plus.

• Comfortable collaborating within a global team and working Australian business hours.
