Telecommunications Systems Engineer SME

As a Telecommunications Systems Engineer SME, you will play a critical role in designing, integrating, and delivering reliable Unified Communications solutions for a major federal customer. You will tackle highly complex engineering challenges across enterprise telecommunications platforms and infrastructure. The role combines advanced systems engineering with hands-on configuration, development, automation, testing, and maintenance. You will serve as a recognized subject matter expert in Avaya systems, with a strong focus on OSSI-based automation and scripting frameworks. Working in a remote, part-time environment, you will provide technical leadership, guidance, documentation, and specialized training. This is an opportunity to apply deep telecommunications expertise to mission-critical technology while contributing to complex systems throughout their full lifecycle.

• Develop advanced technical solutions to highly complex systems engineering challenges across telecommunications and enterprise platforms, including Avaya, Juniper, Cisco, Zoom, and Microsoft technologies.
• Lead advanced systems design, development, and integration activities throughout the full systems lifecycle, with a strong focus on Avaya Aura.
• Design, install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, system management tools, and complex infrastructure environments.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for Avaya systems, including Avaya Aura, and provide specialized expertise in OSSI-based automation tools.
• Develop OSSI scripting frameworks and work with Avaya Aura System Manager database schemas and OSSI interfaces.
• Apply advanced engineering principles to complex systems development and design, including logic design, I/O design, model formulation, computer architecture analysis, and digital systems engineering.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, processes, and procedures related to engineering projects.
• Provide specialized system and equipment training, technical guidance, and engineering support to relevant teams and stakeholders.
• Contribute to telecommunications service delivery and configuration management activities across complex enterprise environments.
• Support cloud deployment initiatives and apply automation and scripting capabilities to improve operational efficiency and system reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Science or a related technical discipline required.
• 15+ years of related professional experience.
• Extensive experience as an Avaya subject matter expert, with strong knowledge of Avaya Aura.
• Strong OSSI expertise, including experience creating OSSI scripting frameworks and working with Avaya Aura System Manager database schemas and OSSI interfaces.
• Demonstrated expertise in telecommunications service delivery and complex enterprise infrastructure environments.
• Strong knowledge of configuration management, systems design, development, integration, installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance.
• Experience with cloud deployments and enterprise IT infrastructure.
• Development-level proficiency with Python for scripting and automation.
• Ability to solve highly complex engineering problems and provide advanced technical guidance.
• Strong documentation, communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
• Ability to provide specialized training and effectively communicate complex technical concepts.
• Must be able to meet agency-specific suitability requirements for the Federal Aviation Administration.
• U.S. citizenship is not required.
