Structural Engineer (PE) - QA/QC Plan Reviewer, K-12 School Facilities

LAUSD's Asset Management and Standards group reviews the structural design of District construction projects and maintains the design standards every District school is built to. As QA/QC Technical Reviewer, Structural, you perform the technical review of structural plans and specifications submitted by District staff, consultants, and commissioned architects and engineers, and you provide written comments on adherence to District standards, the quality of the structural design and its documentation, and coordination with the other design disciplines.

You also contribute to the District's design guidance, including the School Design Guide, Educational Specifications, Guide Technical Specifications, and Standard Technical Drawings, and you recommend updates to District policy and structural specifications so they stay current with building codes and safety requirements and improve the quality and cost of construction, maintenance, and operation.

You advise Owner Authorized Representatives, inspectors, design managers, and design teams on structural questions, proposed product substitutions, and departures from District standards, and you coordinate with Design and A/E Technical Support and other District groups.

What You Will Own

· Technical review of structural plans and specifications for District construction projects

· Written review comments on District standards, structural design quality, documentation, and coordination with other disciplines

· Structural content of the School Design Guide, Educational Specifications, Guide Technical Specifications, and Standard Technical Drawings

· Recommended updates to District structural policy and specifications for code, safety, cost, and maintenance

· Structural guidance on product substitutions, departures from standards, and technical questions from the field

· Quality assurance and quality control, constructability, and peer reviews on projects in design and construction

Requirements

What You Bring

· A valid California Professional Engineer (PE) license (required for this role)

· 10 years of full-time professional structural engineering experience in the planning, design, and construction of educational facilities

· A bachelor's degree in structural engineering or a related field (required for this role). Additional qualifying experience may substitute for up to 2 years of the degree, year for year

· Structural and architectural practice on K-12 repairs, modernizations, and new construction

· Preparation of structural and architectural specifications and contract documents

· Working knowledge of the California Building Code, CalGreen, OSHA, ASHRAE, and ASTM as applied to school construction

· Requirements of DSA, the state office that approves public school construction, and the California Department of Education

· LEED and CHPS, the Collaborative for High Performance Schools sustainability standard, and commissioning requirements

· Clear, concise technical writing and detailed review comments

· A valid California Structural Engineer (SE) license

Compensation

Salary 175,000 to 196,000
