Temporary Consultant in Clinical Neurophysiology

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Temporary Consultant in Clinical Neurophysiology to join our client’s dedicated multidisciplinary team.

In this role, you will lead and deliver high-quality diagnostic clinical neurophysiology services, serving both adult and pediatric populations. You will work alongside experienced clinical physiologists, consultant neurologists, and administrative staff to ensure efficient service delivery and maintain exceptional standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnostic Reporting & Testing: Supervise, perform, and interpret a full range of neurophysiological investigations, including:

  • Standard, sleep-deprived, and ambulatory Electroencephalography (EEG)

  • Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) and Electromyography (EMG)

  • Evoked Potentials (SEP, VEP, AEP)

  • Video-EEG monitoring and ICU/CCU neuro-monitoring where required

• Clinical Leadership: Provide expert diagnostic consultation to hospital departments, regional general practitioners, and referral centers.

• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Actively participate in clinical multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, including epilepsy and general neuroscience reviews.

• Quality & Governance: Drive quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit, risk management, and service development within the department.

• Teaching & Supervision: Engage in the training, supervision, and mentorship of clinical physiologists, junior medical staff, and medical students from the UL School of Medicine.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

• Professional Registration: Full registration as a Specialist in Clinical Neurophysiology (or Neurology with subspecialty expertise in Neurophysiology) on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland (MCI) — or eligible for registration prior to appointment.

• Qualifications: Possession of MRCPI, FRCP, or an equivalent higher specialist medical qualification.

• Experience: Demonstrated comprehensive experience in standard and complex clinical neurophysiology procedures across adult and pediatric caseloads.

• Skills: Strong clinical diagnostic skills, excellent communication, and a proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary clinical team
